Special Edition Alfa Romeo MiTo RIAR goes on Sale

Earlier this year, Alfa Romeo announced that in celebration of the 46th anniversary of the Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo or ‘RIAR’ for short, it would launch a special edition version of the MiTo that would be produced in a mere 46 examples for the members of the international club. RIAR has now started to accept orders from its members for the limited run MiTo that is powered by a 155HP 1.4-liter Turbo engine.

Priced at €20,000, the MiTo RIAR is finished in black with matching head light and tail lamp surroundings as well as dark 17-inch alloy wheels similar in design to those fitted on the 8c Competizione. Other features include the red brake callipers, a roof spoiler and the restyled rear bumper.

Inside, the MiTo RIAR gets the full leather treatment as well as a carbon-fiber look plastics for the upper part of the dashboard and numerous ‘RIAR’ badges with the production number of the car.

Alfa MiTo GTA car concept is now on the road!Yeah, that’s the truth revealed by carscoop blog.They even get to captured the Alfa MiTo GTA action while on road.

But if you just can’t wait until the beginning of next week to see the official image gallery, here’s what we learned from our source. The new MiTo GTA will feature a working bodykit that improves the car’s CX drag coefficient. In details, the front end is characterized by the wide air intakes, the new styling of the classic Alfa grille, the badge that has been positioned on the bonnet and the new bumper. As for what we saw as a hood scoop, turns out it’s a windscreen wiper deflector

From the side, the GTA will be distinguished by the dark-finished 19-inch forged aluminum rims, the 8C Competizione-inspired air-vents and the aerodynamic miniskirts. As for the car’s rear end, the restyled bumper has an air extractor to increase aerodynamic downforce while at the center it incorporates a large diameter twin exhaust pipe. Furthermore, the tailgate has been completely redesigned, using carbon fiber technology and incorporating an integral spoiler with a wing which is wider in the upper and side sections.

Inside, we were told that the GTA will get a blacked out trim while a red stitching runs all the way round the car. Unique features will include new air vents, specially designed for the MiTo GTA Concept and embellished with aluminum inserts, an ergonomically designed sports steering wheel and instruments with new graphics (the speedometer has an end of scale of 300 Km/h).

And what about under the hood? The MiTo GTA Concept sport’s a new 1.75-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine producing an output of 240-horsepower. Developed by the engineers of FPT – Fiat Powertrain Technologies, the four-pot unit uses various technical solutions, including direct gasoline injection, dual VVT, the turbocharger and, according to Alfa, a “revolutionary management system”.

Even though no acceleration figures have been released, Alfa claims that the MiTo GTA’s 1.75L Turbo will offer performances comparable with those of an engine of 3.0-liters, while consumption is maintained at levels typical of a 4-cylinder engine of average capacity.

Though we do know that the MiTo GTA Concept will retain the front-wheel drive layout of the standard versions, we weren’t able to find out with what type of transmission it will be equipped.

To enhance the MiTo’s handling qualities, Alfa Romeo’s engineers performed various upgrades on the chassis. Among other things, they completely revised the operating parameters of the suspension, lowering it by about 20 mm and upgraded the steering system for a more direct and precise feeling. Alfa Romeo also developed a new “active suspension system” with Magneti Marelli and a high-performance braking system with Brembo.

By looking at this three U.S. Bound Alfa 8c Competiziones for Sale on eBay, makes my eyes roll.I adore the colors and design Alfa gives to this model.You would think that since only a mere 84 (of a total of 500 examples) of Alfa’s classically beautiful 8c Competizione were sent to North America, by now all of them should have been parked in a garage of some luxurious villa. Apparently not as currently, there are three brand-new 8c Competiziones up for sale on eBay Motors. The first one is located in Chesterfield Missouri and has a starting bid of $243,900 while the second one that is in Minnetonka, Minnesota, has a “Buy it Now” price of $329,995. Finally, there’s an 8c in Houston Texas with a “Buy it Now” tag of $295,000.

But guess what; despite the fact that we’re talking about one of the most gorgeous cars in the planet and a sure future classic, as we speak and aside from a declined offer, no one has placed a bid on any of the three examples.

Alfa Romeo Returns to America

The headline is that, Alfa Romeo is coming back to America.
Alfa bosses are now looking to re-start sales in the U.S. either in 2010 or 2011 with a final decision likely to be made in Italy by the end of the year. There’s also buzz about building cars in the States. So, that means they were serious about coming back to America’s market.

Alfa Romeo, now is riding high on their acclaim of its new stunning 8C Competizione super coupe and funky new junior Alfa, the Mito, has been away from the U.S. for far too long.

Yet Alfa bosses still remain committed to the U.S. and if Alfa is going to earn its keep and at least double sales to 300,000 units per year, then a return to the U.S. just has to happen.

Speculation links Alfa now with Tata-owned Jaguar for a suitable RWD platform. This could also support a replacement for Alfa’s glamorous E-segment premier sedan, the 166, which may be badged 169 if approved.

Today’s fun and feisty 1.4-1.6-liter Alfa MiTo would seem the perfect relaunch model for an American market that’s downsizing and increasingly focusing on fuel economy.

Aimed directly at the hit Mini Cooper, the Mito has already garnered strong reviews and a 1.8-liter high performance 230 bhp Mito GTA, targeting the Cooper S, is also due in 2009. Yes, it could all work, but again we await official word from Milan.

The news that BMW and Fiat are now to co-operate on ‘under the skin’ architecture and parts throws up yet another variation on the Alfa theme, with speculation that the next Mini and Grande Punto (which sired the Alfa Mito) could share essentially the same platform. That would certainly clear a path back to the U.S. for Alfa.

Another possibility is that BMW could provide the Italians with a good rear-drive platform for next generation versions of the 159 and Brera although discussions on the whole collaboration are still at a very early stage, a spokesperson said.

Sources also suggest that Fiat and BMW are also working together on a new family of gasoline and diesel engines.When it comes to Alfa Romeo, there’s long been an element of smoke and mirrors. The message this time however is that the Milanese sporting icon, which has long had the potential to be an Italian BMW, is finally getting its act together.And yes, after too long away, finally on its way back to the States.

Alfa Romeo Returns To The U.S.

It has been almost ten years since we were able to purchase an Alfa Romeo in America. They ceased the purchasing of these stylish vehicles because of the lack of sales. But know the time has come for them to return and we are all ready for it.

The president of Maserati North America, James Selwa, has announced that Alfa Romeo cars will be sold in the US from 2008. The first model will be the 8C Competizione. Selwa says the supercar will be priced “above US$200,000? and distributed via Maserati dealerships.

These vehicles may cost a pretty penny, but when you have that much speen at your fingers you won’t care how much money you put into it. In 2009 we can expect to see a broader range of Alfa Romeo vehicles.
