Little did we know about the new utility was preparing Volkswagen. And that we had more or less clear that Volkswagen was testing a new model, designed for the city. And even were rumors about the launch of this new model before the end of this year. And it has. Both engines also feature BlueMotion versions Technology, and include steps to consume little fuel, such as Start & Stop device, for example. All with five-speed manual gearbox, although automatic versions are discarded after its launch.

Both petrol engines are authorized consumption of 4.2 and 4.2 means l/100km in versions 60 and 75 hp respectively, achieving a very low consumption, but not reaching the levels of the Fiat 500 Twin (which achieves 4.0 l/100 km). Currently, there is no diesel option, but if there could be an electric version in 2013.

Volkswagen Passat in U.S. market 2012

One of the most highly expected world premieres of the 2011 NAIAS, the new U.S. market 2012 Volkswagen Passat, turned out to be one of the less exciting -at least in terms of design introductions of the show. The US-built replacement for the European-sourced Passat literally looks like an extra-large Jetta, which drew its own share of criticism for its uninspired and generic looks. For comparison, we’ve added a few shots of the Jetta after the jump.

While the design may not be engaging, the car’s lower sticker prices will certainly attract more buyers as the new Passat will start from around $20,000 or some $7,000 to $8,000 less than the 2011MY it replaces.

However, keep in mind that while the base 2011 Passat was offered with a modern 200HP 2.0 TFSI, the entry-level 2012MY Passat will come with VW’s old 2.5-liter five-cylinder unit rated at 170HP.

Other engine options for U.S. buyers include a more frugal 140HP 2.0-liter turbo diesel that returns up to 43mpg, and a range topping 3.6-liter VR6 with 280HP and a 0-60mph sprint time of 6.5 seconds.

Volkswagen will manufacture the 2012 Passat at its new $1 billion Chattanooga factory in Tennessee, the automaker’s first U.S. assembly plant since it shut down its Pennsylvania plant in 1988. The mid-size saloon will go on sale in the States in mid-August.

Nissan motors, VW, Ford and GM into small-car race

At least four new models will start rolling out in a few months from the factories of Ford India Pvt. Ltd, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd, Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd and General Motors India Pvt. Ltd (GM), joining a race in which Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Hyundai Motor India Ltd and Tata Motors Ltd are clear leaders.

The new models—the Ford Figo, the Nissan Micra, the Volkswagen Polo and the Chevrolet Beat—will hit the road in the first six months of next year and will seek to take advantage of the increased income in the hands of Indians as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s government seeks to push growth to 8-9% levels over the next few years.

Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee estimates growth this year at 7%-plus, indicating a recovery from the slowdown caused by the financial crisis, after the fastest economic expansion in 15 months in the July-September quarter.

India’s auto industry was in any case among the first sectors to recover from the slump. Auto sales have surged 18% to 7.8 million in the eight months from April to November. Passenger vehicles sales have gone up 21% to 1.2 million.

Kapil Arora, partner at consulting firm Ernst and Young, says a 5-10% market share target in the initial years of the launch, would be ambitious. “Factors like a strong brand reputation, wide reach and pricing advantage will give the existing players like Maruti and Hyundai, an advantage over the new ones,” he said.

The new entrants will add capacity of half-a-million cars in the next two to three years, saddling the industry with excess capacity by 2012-13, according to Dilip Chenoy, director general at the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, a lobby group. While the models will also be exported to other emerging markets, they will come on top of the 1.5 million cars sold locally in the year to 31 March. The slack will be picked up by 2014-15, Chenoy said. “While the big three (Maruti, Hyundai and Tata Motors) will lose market share, the overall market will grow.”

Volkswagen has announced the launch of the ‘Black-Orange’ SE series for the New Beetle hatch and convertible. Both body styles are available with either a black finish and contrasting white stripes on the sides or an orange finish with black stripes. The exterior package is complemented by a set of 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels.
The New Beetle ‘Black Orange’ models are available with several engine options with prices in Germany starting from €22,550 (around US$33,800) for the hatch with the 102HP 1.6-liter petrol engine.

Green JE Design gives the VW Scirocco 2.0 TDI Wings

Banking on the popularity of diesel models in Europe, JE Design has presented a comprehensive tuning package for the VW Scirocco 2.0 TDI coupe that even includes a pair of Lamborghini-style scissor doors. For the basic version of the 2.0-liter diesel engine, the tuner offers a kit that boosts output from 140HP to 180HP and peak torque from 320Nm to 400Nm. In this case, top speed increases from to 213km/h or 132mph (+5km/h) while acceleration from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) is reduced by 0.9sec to 8.4 sec.

The most potent version of the 2.0 TDI that makes 170HP in stock form receives a 35HP and 60Nm bump to 205HP and 410Nm launching the Scirocco from standstill to 100km/h in 7.1sec (-0.7sec) and on to a tp speed of 229km/h or 143mph (+7km/h). The upgrade price for the 140HP motor is €1,249 and for the 170HP version, €1,449.

For those that would like to spice up the Scirocco’s appearance, JS Design offers a complete bodykit for €919 that includes a front spoiler with carbon fiber trim, side skirts with air intakes (optionally available in carbon fiber) and a rear diffuser that houses a pair of chrome tailpipes. The LSD doors are priced from €1,559.

The package is rounded off with a suspension kit that lowers the height of the vehicle by 30mm (€219), a sport exhaust system (€899) and a set of 19-inch alloy wheels in silver (€2,810) or graphite (€2,930) wrapped in 235/25 R19 rubber.

If you want any more proof that Volkswagen’s BlueSport roadster concept is heading towards production, just consider the fact that the German firm has not only given the car an internal development code name but it also invited a number of journalists to take the one-off concept for a quick test drive. Furthermore, VW has published a brand new photo album of the car on the road, that you can check out in all its high-res glory after the jump.

Even though VW officials may not publicly admit it, the mid-engined, rear-wheel drive BlueSport roadster that was revealed for the first time at this year’s Detroit Show, is essentially a low-cost alternative to the Porsche Boxster.

The two-seater is still a concept, but as a production car it would have the best talents for turning the segment of compact, genuine sports cars upside down,” said VW in a statement. “That is because this roadster is sporty, sustainable and affordable all at once – a people’s car and a sports car for a new era.

Developed with a ‘back to basics’ approach, the concept version of the 3.99 meter long BlueSport roadster is powered by a 2.0-liter TDI turbocharged diesel engine that cranks out 180HP and 350Nm or 258.2-lbs/ft of torque which is transferred to the rear axle through a 6-speed dual clutch transmission with shift paddles on the steering wheel.

With the 180HP 2.0 TDI, the soft-top roadster that weighs in at less than 1,200kg (2,645-lbs), can sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62mph) in about 6.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of 226km/h or 141mph. Volkswagen claims that the two-seater roadster can deliver an average fuel consumption of just 4.3 liters per 100km (54.7mpg US). In combination with the 50-liter tank, the car’s theoretical range is greater than 1,150 kilometers or 715-miles.

If, or rather when the Roadster enters production, expect to see an array of turbocharged gasoline (TSI) and diesel (TDI) engines that will most likely include the 160HP 2.0 TDI, the 1.4 TSI with 122HP as well as the Scirocco R’s 265HP 2.0 TSI.

The German firm promises that in spite of the car’s sporty credentials, the roadster still offers a respectable level of everyday utility. In the cargo area under the front hood, the Concept BlueSport can stow 112 liters of luggage while the rear trunk handle an additional 70 liters of cargo. Altogether that makes 182 liters or 20% more space than what the Mazda MX-5 / Miata offers (150 liters).

If all goes well and the BlueSport Roadster receives the final green light for production, the first cars could arrive at VW showrooms around late 2012.

Volkswagen Replaces 1.9 TDI with new 1.6 TDI Engine on the Golf VI Range

Having already introduced its 1.6 TDI engine on the latest generation VW Polo and Seat Ibiza models, Volkswagen has now announced the availability of the newly developed common rail diesel unit that replaces the 1.9-liter TDI on the Golf VI range. In the Golf family, the 1.6-liter diesel that is hooked up to a 5-speed manual gearbox or optionally, a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG), produces an output of 105HP and 250Nm (184-lbs/ft) of torque between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm.

Volkswagen claims that with this engine, the Golf hatchback and Variant models return an average fuel consumption of 4.5 lt/100km (52.3mpg US) while the Golf Plus is rated at 4.8 lt/100km (49mpg US).
In Germany, the Golf 1.6 TDI hatchback is priced from €20,600 while the Golf Variant and Golf Plus 1.6 TDI from €22,450 and €22,275 respectively.

For those looking to combine the driving pleasures of the Golf GTI with the fuel savings of a diesel engine, VW has launched the new Golf GTD in Europe. The diesel alter-ego of the GTI is powered by a 2.0-liter TDi producing 170HP and 350Nm or 258lbs of torque, launching the hatch from standstill to 100km/h (62mph) in 8.1 sec and on to a top speed of 222km/h or 138mph. And what the GTD lacks in terms of performance compared to the GTI, it compensates with its lower fuel consumption (5.3lt /100km or 44.3mpg US). VW Scirocco coupe(Scirocco 2.0TSI) from APP Europe

APP Europe had compile a great collection of parts combination from five branded parts into VW Scirocco coupe. The design that put into this Scirocco 2.0TSI were using parts from Rieger Tuning, KW Automotive, Wimmer Rennsporttechnik, CFC and MR Car Design.It is totally great looking sporty coupe car.

The Scirocco’s 2.0-liter turbocharged engine benefits from an upgraded ECU that costs €2,500 or US$3,300, courtesy of Wimmer Rensporttechnik, that boosts output from 200HP to 261HP and peak torque from 280Nm(206 lbs-ft) to 380Nm (280 lbs-ft) allowing the coupe to reach a top speed of 263km/h or 164mph.

Furthermore, the Scirocco gains a sport exhaust system from MR Car Design (€1,599 or US$2,100) while the same company also provided a new limited slip differential (35%) for €2,990 or US$3,950. These changes call for an update on the DSG’s software that will cost you an another €890 or US$1,180.

Braking power is provided by APP’s high performance brake system (€3,220 or US$4,260) with 4-pistons and two-part slotted discs sized 355×32 mm while KW Automotive is the company of choice for a set of coilovers (€1,529 or US$2,020).

The new bodykit that includes a front apron (€599 or US$792), side skirts (€328 or US$433) and a rear apron with an integrated diffuser (€329 or US$435) is from Rieger. The optic highlights such as the black roof and red pin stripes are from CFC (prices weren’t announced).

Last but not least, APP Europe equips the Scirocco with a set of 19-inch, 3-piece bi-colour aluminium wheels (complete set for €5,200 or US$6,870) wrapped in Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta high performance tires.
